The Islamic Society of Delaware condemns the act of violence that was perpetrated against the places worship in the past couple of days. We would also like to express solidarity with the affected members of those congregation.

As a precaution, please see below the Community Safety Kit and get yourself familiarized with the information packet.

COMMUNITY NOTICE:

CAIR-Philadelphia Urges Mosques and Muslim Institutions to Take Precaution in Light of National Tragedy

Asalaam Aalaikum (Peace be upon you),

I'm sure that you are aware of the tragic shootings that occurred at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin on Sunday and a second arson attack on a Missouri mosque yesterday morning.  In light of these incidents, CAIR is calling for increased police protection at Muslims institutions and other houses of worship nationwide.

Within the last few years CAIR has seen an unprecedented rise in the amount of anti-Muslim attacks. American mosques all over the country have been targeted by arson, vandalism and threats.

In order to proactively protect the community, CAIR-Philadelphia urges Delaware Valley Muslim leaders to review advice on security procedures contained in CAIR's "Muslim Community Safety Kit."  This kit has been developed to better equip the community with the knowledge necessary to protect against anti-Muslim bigotry or attacks and to secure basic rights.

We also call upon mosque leadership to contact local police to provide extra surveillance of mosques through the end of Ramadan and the day of Eid-Al-Fitr.

During this difficult time, people of all faiths must come together and support each other.  We encourage the community to attend a candlelight vigil organized by the Sikh community THIS EVENING, August 7th from 7:30pm to 8:30pm at Love Park - JFK Boulevard between 15th and 16th Streets.  We understand that this is during Iftar (breaking the fast) time, however, it would be greatly appreciated if you stop by to show your support.

Thank You,

CAIR-Philadelphia Executive Committee & Staff
